The Big Team-Up: When Phone Magic and Robot Magic Became One 🦸

Imagine…

You have two separate toy boxes. One box has toys for playing at home: dolls, action figures, board games. The other box has toys for the playground: frisbees, skipping ropes, balls. They’re both full of great stuff, but wouldn’t it be amazing if all the toys lived in one giant toy box, so you never had to choose which box to open?

That’s exactly what happened with SGP.22 v3.x, the brand-new eSIM magic rulebook! Before v3.x, there were two separate rulebooks: one for phone eSIMs (the “consumer” rulebook) and one for robot eSIMs (the “machine” rulebook). V3.x merged them into one giant rulebook : the biggest team-up in eSIM history.

What Makes v3.x Special? ✨

The new unified rulebook added superpowers that didn’t exist before:

Wearing Two Invisible Cloaks at Once (MEP) : your phone can use two mobile plans simultaneously, like having both a work phone and a personal phone in one device
The Magic Doorbell (Push Service) : instead of your phone constantly walking to the Post Office to check for mail, the Post Office now rings your doorbell when something arrives
The Remote Control (RPM) : your mobile company can manage your secret keys from far away, without you touching anything
Old and New Magic Together : v3.x devices can still talk to older v2.x servers, so nobody gets left out

The New Helpers in Town 🦸‍♀️

v3.x introduced new assistants alongside the familiar five:

The Postman’s Doorbell (Push Server) : tells the Post Office “I’ll let the phone know instantly!”
The Secret Courier (LPRd) : a helper inside the phone that manages profile contents after they arrive
The Content Workshop (PCMP) : a remote workshop that can update what’s inside your secret keys

The Timeline ⏰

v3.0 (October 2022) : The first team-up! Introduced the Remote Control and Enterprise keys
v3.1 (December 2023) : Added Two Invisible Cloaks, the Magic Doorbell, and Key Moving between phones

SGP.22 v3.x wasn’t meant to replace the older v2.x rulebook: they’re like two flavours of ice cream that coexist happily. A v3.x phone can still chat perfectly with an older v2.x Key Maker, and an older phone won’t get confused by new v3.x magic. Everyone plays nicely together!
